In Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany Claudia Knupfer was born in November 1956. Even early in life she was already highly interested in the possibilites
of combining Visual and Spoken art forms.

After a four-year study in Art History, Germanics and Kultural Sciences at
the University of Tuebingen, she cahnged her interest to the Theater.
In 1980 she began to study acting and drama at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar
in Vienna and worked for 15 years as an actress and speaker for Theater,
Radio and Television.

After once again another study period at the Institute for Communicationsdesign in Constance, Germany she is now working as a designer and graphic artist for print and as well in the field of Internet.
The actual basis of her work is found through her pictures. A favorite theme
of hers is Nature. Claudia Knupfer lives with her family in Constance.


NOTHING IS AT IT SEEMS

I do not believe in the obvious, I always question the intension behind a work.
How are one's limits conditioned, where is the point of return, when does one enter another world? I must think further and look deeper than the ostensible display presents.

So I take the obvious as a proposition, but actually I will provocate the history behind a picture, making visible the levels before or below the surface.
For this purpose I am looking for a formal media. Abstraction or reduction to one isolated impression, for example color. Or one may set the focus to any part of a given picture, which could be essentially important. And so on. One can focus on what transforms, and breaks up accustomed contexts and will therefore can give a creative impulse to our minds for a newer more personal and alternative result.
